Alloy 20 (UNS N08020, W.Nr 2.4660, often known as Carpenter 20Cb-3) is a niobium-stabilised nickel-iron-chromium alloy with molybdenum and copper, developed for sulphuric acid service. It resists general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking, and the niobium addition limits carbide precipitation during welding. Alloy 20 sits between 316L stainless and the higher nickel alloys. It is a cost-effective upgrade over 316L for hot sulphuric acid and many chemical streams; for stronger chlorides or reducing acids, Incoloy 825 or a Hastelloy grade may be the better fit.
