Monel 400 (UNS N04400, W.Nr 2.4360) is a nickel-copper alloy with roughly two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. It resists seawater, brackish water, hydrofluoric acid, sulphuric acid under reducing conditions, and alkalis, and keeps its strength and toughness from sub-zero temperatures to about 480 °C. Monel 400 is often the first answer for fast-flowing seawater and for hydrofluoric acid, where stainless steels pit or crack. It is not suited to oxidising acids such as nitric acid, and aerated, stagnant conditions can cause local attack, so share your process conditions and we will help you confirm the grade, or suggest an alternative such as Inconel 625 or Hastelloy C-276.
