Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825, W.Nr 2.4858) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with molybdenum, copper and titanium additions. It is known for resistance to sulphuric and phosphoric acids, to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and pitting, and to intergranular attack thanks to titanium stabilisation. Incoloy 825 sits between the 300-series stainless steels and the Hastelloy grades. It is a cost-effective step up when 316L suffers from chloride cracking or acid attack, especially in sulphuric acid service and sour oil and gas environments. Incoloy 825 resists reducing and oxidising acids, stress-corrosion cracking, pitting and crevice corrosion, and is stabilised against sensitisation during welding. It forms and welds readily, which is why it is widely used for thin-wall tubing and fabricated equipment.
