Hastelloy grades and specifications

Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276, W.Nr 2.4819): plate, sheet and strip ASTM B575 / ASME SB575, bar ASTM B574, seamless pipe ASTM B622, welded pipe B619, welded tube B626.

Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022, W.Nr 2.4602): same product specs as C276 (B575, B574, B622, B619, B626), with fittings to ASTM B366 (WPHC22).

Hastelloy C-4 (UNS N06455, W.Nr 2.4610): plate and sheet ASTM B575, bar ASTM B574, pipe ASTM B622 / B619. Mill origin and availability are confirmed for each enquiry.

Hastelloy B2 / B3 (UNS N10665 / N10675): plate and sheet ASTM B333, bar ASTM B335, seamless pipe ASTM B622, welded pipe B619. B3 now usually replaces B2.

Forgings and flanges: ASTM B564 / ASME SB564. Fittings: ASTM B366 (WPHC276, WPHC22, WPHB-2 / WPHB-3).

Typical chemistry: C276 Mo 15.0–17.0%, Cr 14.5–16.5%, W 3.0–4.5%. C22 Cr 20.0–22.5%, Mo 12.5–14.5%. B3 Mo 27–32%. Density: C276 about 8.89, C22 about 8.69, C-4 about 8.64 and B-alloys about 9.2 g/cm³.

Solution-annealed minimums (ASTM B575): C276 tensile 690 MPa, yield 283 MPa, elongation 40%. C22 tensile 690 MPa, yield 310 MPa, elongation 45%. C276 and C22 are non-magnetic.

Should I choose C276 or C22?

C22 has more chromium, so it is better in oxidising media such as nitric acid and ferric ions. C276 has more molybdenum and tungsten, so it suits mixed oxidising and reducing chemistry. Both are similar in reducing acids.

Can Hastelloy B3 handle nitric acid or aerated acid?

No. B2 and B3 are for reducing acids such as hydrochloric acid. If ferric or cupric ions or oxygen are present, choose C276 or C22.

Will the material come with a 3.1 certificate for plant inspection?
