Hastelloy grades and specifications

Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276, W.Nr 2.4819): the usual choice for reactors, heat exchangers and piping in mixed acid and chloride service. Plate and sheet to ASTM B575, bar B574, seamless pipe B622, welded pipe B619.

Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022, W.Nr 2.4602): preferred where oxidising conditions appear, such as nitric acid or ferric chloride, and in multi-product plants where the process changes between batches. Same product specifications as C276.

Hastelloy C-4 (UNS N06455, W.Nr 2.4610): used for fabricated vessels that are welded and then stress-relieved. Plate and sheet to ASTM B575, bar B574, pipe B622 / B619. Mill origin and availability are confirmed for each enquiry.

Hastelloy B2 / B3 (UNS N10665 / N10675): for hydrochloric acid in the absence of oxidising agents. Plate and sheet to ASTM B333, bar B335. B3 now usually replaces B2.

Forgings and flanges to ASTM B564 / ASME SB564. Fittings to ASTM B366 (WPHC276, WPHC22, WPHB-3).

Typical chemistry: C276 has Mo 15.0–17.0%, Cr 14.5–16.5% and W 3.0–4.5%. C22 has Cr 20.0–22.5% and Mo 12.5–14.5%. B3 has Mo 27–32%.

Densities for weight estimates: C276 about 8.89, C22 about 8.69, C-4 about 8.64 and B-alloys about 9.2 g/cm³. Solution-annealed minimums to ASTM B575: C276 tensile 690 MPa, yield 283 MPa; C22 tensile 690 MPa, yield 310 MPa.
